Director’s Notes
Bat Boy was born from the imagination of Weekly World News Editor Dick Kulpa on June 23, 1992.  The first photo of Bat Boy, showing a grotesque screaming face, made for the second-best selling issue in the tabloid’s history and placed Bat Boy into American pop-culture for all time.  On Halloween night, 1997, the original production of Bat Boy: The Musical opened in Los Angeles and the story of this creature and his struggle to fit into small town USA helped ensure his place in theatrical history as well.  According to the Weekly World News evolutionary scientists believe that Bat Boy “belongs to a race of creatures who have interacted with humans for at least 400 years”.  If this is true then we are truly blessed to have Bat Boy walking among us and I hope you enjoy tonight’s production.  The cast and crew’s commitment to bringing this Greek Tragedy to our stage is to be commended.  I couldn’t have asked for anything more!
