Junie B. Jones the musical
Book and lyrics by Marcy Heisler
Music by Zina Goldrich
Directed and Choreographed by
Carissa Meisner Smit
Musical Direction by Rebecca Fredrickson

Adapted from the Junie B. Jones Series of books by Barbara Park
It's Junie B.'s first day of first grade, and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie's friend, Lucille, doesn't want to be her best pal anymore and, on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher, Mr. Scary, thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal," and first grade has never been more exciting.

Alexandra Read (Lucille/Bobbi Jean/Jose) is thrilled to make her SecondStory Repertory debut. Some of her favorite past credits include Sharpay Evans in HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL (Broadway Theatre Arts); Witch in INTO THE WOODS, BYE BYE BIRDIE, PETER PAN (North County School of the Arts), and Penny in HONK!, MARY POPPINS (San Dieguito Academy). Read has studied musical theatre around Southern California with Pamela Laurent and North County School of the Arts, and has experience instructing a variety of visual and performing arts classes and camps, as well as working as a dance captain for numerous productions. Currently, she is a second year student at the University of Washington. Read grew up reading the Junie B. Jones books and is excited to help share such a fun and endearing story.

Curtis Jacobson (Dad/Mr.Scary/Gladys) is thrilled to be back on the SSR Stage for a 5th  time in Junie B. Jones the Musical.  What other productions has he performed in?  Well that’s an excellent question!  He portrayed a Tadpole in Bayou Bugs, Dad/Shoe Salesman/ Dentist in Alexander and the Horrible Terrible no Good Very Bad Day, The Fish in The Cat in the Hat, Grandma in Little Red Riding Hood, and in his non award winning, but heartfelt performance of Solicitor 2 in A Christmas Carol. Other favorite roles include, Uncle Ernie in The WHOS TOMMY at Seattle Musical Theatre, Mr. Mushnick in Little Shop of Horrors at Mount Baker Repertory Theatre, and Lady Enid/Nicodemus in The Mystery of Irma Vep at Key City Public Theatre.  Curtis received his BFA in Acting from Northern Arizona University, College of Performing Arts.

Lizzie Rose Sande (Junie B. Jones) is ecstatic to be making her SecondStory Rep debut! She is a recent graduate from Central Washington University and is excited to put her BFA in Musical Theater to work. Lizzie was last seen in Coeur d’Alene Summer Theare’s productions of South Pacific as a nurse and a featured dancer in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Most of her experience is in dance and acrobatics. Lizzie would like to thank her friends, family, and significant other for supporting her through her artistic journey. She dearly hopes everyone enjoys the show and would like to remind everyone when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

Alex Robinson (Sheldon/Camille/Lenny) is ecstatic to be making her SecondStory Debut! Previous credits include: Hairspray, James and The Giant Peach (Aunt Spiker), Addams Family, Young Frankenstein, Willy Wonka KIDS (Willy Wonka) at Everett Village Theatre Kidstage. Gratitude and love to the Famdamily, her magical cast and crew, Ellen, and Lukas.

Hayley Ewerz (May/Mother/Grace) is proud to be returning onstage to SecondStory’s Theater for Young Audiences after appearing as the Tooth Fairy in Goodnight Moon! Since moving to Seattle five years ago from Dallas, she has performed locally with Village Theatre, Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, SecondStory’s mainstage, Renton Civic Theatre, Seattle Musical Theatre, and Driftwood Players. She loves to jog around Bellevue with her dog Augie, travel with her husband JW, and says “y’all” as much as she can. Special dedication to The Squolf, cast, and crew for their remarkable talent.

Carissa Meisner Smit (Director/Choreographer) has been performing, choreographing, directing and producing in the Seattle area since 2005.  Recent projects include The Drowsy Chaperone (Edmonds Driftwood Players), The Crossing (co-written with composer/ lyricist Paul Lewis, Theater Schmeater), and Urinetown (Shoreline Community College).  She is also one half of the musical duo Skid Rogues.

Laurie Roberts McClain (Costume Designer) has been designing costumes for over 15 years, and is delighted to be back working at SSR again for the 32nd time.  She has also designed costumes for Bellevue Youth Theatre and Youth Theatre Northwest.  She enjoys reading and scouring garage sales for hidden treasures.  Thanks, as always to the Squolf for the opportunity.  Enjoy the show!!
