Cabaret
Book by Joe Masteroff
Music by John Kander
Lyrics by Fred Ebb
The scene is a night club in Berlin, as the
1920's are drawing to a close. The Master of
Ceremonies welcomes the audience to the show and
assures them that, whatever their troubles, they
will forget them at the Cabaret. His songs
provide wry commentary throughout the show. On
the train to Berlin we find Cliff, a young
American writer, and Ernst, a German who
surprises Cliff by putting his briefcase among
Cliff's luggage at the German border. History is
in the process of being made. Musical numbers
include It Couldn't Please Me More, Willkommen,
Cabaret, Don't Tell Mama and Two Ladies. We find
Cliff on the train again, now leaving Berlin
alone. He writes about Sally and the people of
Berlin leading up to the Third Reich. It has
been a tumultuous and heartbreaking era.
From the TPS
2012 Gregory Awards nominating process: "Loved the
direction and choreography for "Cabaret" at Second Story
Rep! Absolutely outstanding and original use of an ensemble
cast."

THE CAST
Carol Richmond (Schneider) Carol
is thrilled to be making her debut at
SecondStory with Cabaret! She has
previously performed in Tacoma, Olympia
and Renton. Favorite roles include
Bubbie in Crossing Delancey (Renton
Civic Theatre), Kate Jerome in Brighton
Beach Memoirs (Capital Playhouse), Golde
in Fiddler on the Roof (Lakewood
Playhouse) and Vera Charles in Auntie
Mame (Tacoma Little Theatre). Huge
thanks to Troy for this opportunity and
much love always to Elizabeth and
Taylor.
Brett Brennan (Victor) is happy
to be making his SSR debut! After
previously playing Victor in Cabaret
(The Schoolyard) this past Spring, Brett
was last seen as Boy in Watermyth
(Fruition Productions), Herb Gordon in
Stalag 17 (Endangered Species Project),
and as Simple in The Merry Wives of
Windsor (Seattle Shakespeare Company).
Brett received his BFA in Theater from
Cornish College of the Arts.
Paul Gauger (Herman) For the past
four years Paul has studied classical
singing and performance with instructor
Erich Parce, his focus being in opera.
But there really isn't much he won't
try, whether it be crooning Sinatra in a
suit, or growling "Rocky Horror" tunes
in stilettos and nylons. As long as he
is on stage performing he is happy. When
not singing and dancing he can usually
be found wasting valuable practice time
playing video games or sleeping.
Brock Madden (Hanz) This is
Brock's first show with SecondStory Rep
since moving to Seattle 3 years ago. You
might have last seen him in Burien
Little Theatre's production of "Tommy"
last winter. Also, he's known to
gallivant with the Seattle Men's Chorus
in various venues across Seattle. Brock
dedicates his performance to his
partner, Ricardo Cook.
Tamara Helland (Rosie) is a
recent graduate from CWU with her BFA in
Musical Theater. Favorite roles have
included Sally (Cabaret), Little Becky
2Shoes (Urinetown), and Velma (WSS).
Dream roles are Peter Pan and Elle
Woods. Thanks to Troy, SSR, my teachers,
my friends, and my families. Special
thanks to TJ and Buster the Bulldogge.
Daniel Stoltenberg (Ernst) This

Rep and he is pleased as punch to work
with such a talented team. Recent shows
include Timepieces with Seattle
Playwright's Collective, Doctor
Horrible's Sing-Along Blog with Balagan
Theatre, Antony & Cleopatra with
GreenStage, and Evil Dead the
Musical with ArtsWest, where he will
appear in Next Fall, somewhat
paradoxically being performed next
spring. Thank you for choosing live
theater.
