The Last Five Years
Book, Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown
Directed by Matt Giles
Music Direction by Julia Thornton
Featuring: Kody Bringman and Becca Orts

This stirring stage musical was hailed as one of the 10 best shows of 2001 by Time magazine. Told through inventive and heartrending songs, The Last Five Years is a two-person show that navigates the ins and outs -- the ups and downs -- of a marriage. Written by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, this Drama Desk Award winner is the story of a couple's five-year relationship, from the thrilling pangs of new love to their painful final separation. There is, however, a twist: The man relives the relationship from beginning to end, while the woman relates their story in reverse. The two characters' emotional timelines converge only once -- at their wedding in the middle of the show.

Kody Bringman (Jamie) & Becca Orts (Cathy)
Becca and Kody have been working together, coincidentally, for the last 5 years as directors, music directors, teachers, and actors. Most recently they played opposite of each other in Syracuse, NY as Woman 1 and Man 2 (Songs for a New World), Shrek and Fiona (Shrek), and Sally and Cliff (Cabaret). At ArtsWest, where they met 5 years ago, their credits include Brad and Janet (Rocky Horror Show) and Kira and Sonny (Xanadu). Co-Directing/ Co-Music Directing credits include Godspell, Once on this Island Jr., Starmites, and Schoolhouse Rock Jr. We would like to thank the late Christopher Zinovitch for his unending support and desire to see us succeed not only as individuals but as a couple. We would also like to thank Mark, Jen, Matt, and Julia for this amazing opportunity to work together here at SecondStory Rep. Here's to the next 5 years.

Matthew Tevenan (Cello) is thrilled to be participating in this amazing production of The Last 5 Years! He is humbled to be working among such accomplished artists. Recent credits include American Idiot and Dogfight at ArtsWest, Into the Woods at Twelfth Night Productions, and The Hours of Life at Theatre22. Upcoming shows include Company at Twelfth Night Productions, South Pacific at Seattle Musical Theatre, and Violet at ArtsWest.

Anthony Pooley (Guitar) is delighted to be working at SSR again on this wonderful show.  Recent credits include Next To Normal (also at SSR), Spring Awakening, Man of La Mancha, The Who’s Tommy, 13, Reefer Madness and many more.  Thanks to Mark, Jen and Julia for giving me the opportunity to play this notoriously challenging score, and to the other members of the band for making it such fun.  Love and gratitude to my beautiful wife Nicki for her support, and her patience during the long, lonely nights of tech week.  Thanks for The Last 20 Years…

Special thanks to Julia, the best friend and best collaborator around.
