A ROOM IN THE CASTLEBy Lauren M. Gunderson
Directed by Jenny Cross
Asst. Director: Elizabeth Shipman
Step away from the brooding prince and into the private chambers of Elsinore. This sharp, fiercely feminist, and darkly comedic contemporary reimagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet is told entirely from the perspective of the women written into the margins of the tragedy: Ophelia, Queen Gertrude, and her loyal handmaid, Margery. While male egos and political violence threaten to burn the court down outside, these three women drink, joke, strategize, and bond. Written with a modern, lyrical punch, it is a powerful story of sisterhood and survival as three women fight to reclaim their fates on their own terms.
