Confined to her beloved Venetian palazzo, an aging Peggy looks back at her life as a self-proclaimed "art addict," fierce champion of the avant-garde, and lover of the world’s greatest creative minds—from Jackson Pollock to Samuel Beckett. This vibrant, witty, and deeply intimate one-woman powerhouse production strips away the public myth to reveal a vulnerable, lonely trailblazer who traded everything to reshape modern art history. RUNNING TIME: 70 minutes with no intermission.
MEET THE CAST
Pat Haines-Ainsworth (Peggy Guggenheim) is an actor, playwright, and visual artist. She often directed shows for Young Audiences at Second Story. Most recently she directed ‘Runaway Bunny’. As an actor, Pat most recently appeared in Reboot Theatre’s production of “Man of La Mancha”. Other notable roles have been A in Twelfth Night’s production of “Three Tall Women” and Aunt March in Arts West’s production of “Little Women” Pat has written and directed over 25 plays for young audiences that have been performed across the country and her podcast, Winking Kat Tales, featuring the musicals she’s written with composer Terence Levitt have been listened to by children and adults around the world. Many thanks to Mark and Doug for enabling me to inhabit this remarkable woman for an hour or so this evening. A woman who introduced America to modern art and risked her life to do so.
MEET THE PRODUCTION TEAM
Doug Knoop (Director) is thrilled to return to the director’s chair for this fascinating show. He has also directed The Mousetrap, Doubt, Dancing at Lughnasa and Outside Mullingar for SecondStory Rep. He was most recently seen onstage as Baldy in A Man of No Importance at SSR and The Outsider and The Addams Family at Edmonds Driftwood Players. Other onstage credits include Casa Valentina for The Lesser Known Players and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert at Bainbridge Performing Arts. Thanks to the force that is PHA for devoting her time and talent to this piece, Mark and Jen for letting me direct again, and the amazing women who’ve inspired me: Kathy Iverson, Pat Shipley, Toni Douglass and my 90-year-old mother, Shirley.
